Atrophic rhinitis. Attempts to control the disease in 4 sow production units

In 4 production units within the same veterinary practice, the incidence of severe atrophic rhinitis varied from 0-8%, while at slaughter 40-45% of the pigs had lesions, although in only 6-7% of these was growth reduced. By a combination of reducing overcrowding, eliminating affected animals and supportive treatment in the critical 4-7 weeks age group a balance was achieved between disease incidence and economic management.
