Attempted experimental infection of poikilothermal vertebrates with 1st-stage and 3rd-stage larvae of Elaphostrongylus cervi

Attempted experimental infection of poikilothermal vertebrates with 1st-stage and 3rd-stage larvae of Elaphostrongylus cervi

Wiadomosci Parazytologiczne 34(2): 131-135

First-stage larvae of E. cervi isolated from the faeces of deer and infective larvae obtained from experimentally infected Helix pomatia were used to infect young Poecilia reticulata, Carassius carassius and Rana tadpoles. In fish, neither larval stage was able to cross the intestinal barrier and the larvae underwent digestion. In the young frogs, the L1 crossed the intestinal wall and continued to develop but generally did not reach the second stage.
