Breeding hull-less barley in India

Advances in the breeding of varieties without husks in India over the past 10 years are outlined. Hull-less varieties have exhibited potential for production under limited irrigation or rainfed conditions, following late planting, on saline-alkaline soils or in the (seasonally flooded) diaralands of eastern Uttar Pradesh and northern Bihar.
