The frequency of mesophyll cell division was higher in a Festuca arundinacea genotype with a fast rate of leaf elongation than in one with slower leaf elongation. Elongating leaf blade width was positively correlated with water content. Increase in transverse cell wall area was positively correlated with increase in specific leaf wt.
