Changes in cortisol, 17 beta -oestradiol and progesterone levels in the peripheral plasma of Xinong Saanen dairy goats around parturition, and their effects on parturition

Changes in cortisol, 17 beta -oestradiol and progesterone levels in the peripheral plasma of Xinong Saanen dairy goats around parturition, and their effects on parturition

Acta Veterinaria et Zootechnica Sinica 19(4): 217-223

In radioimmunoassay studies on 15 goats the cortisol (C) and 17 beta -oestradiol (17 beta -E) levels increased gradually and showed significant correlation in the 72 hours before parturition. There was a negative correlation between a sharp decline in progesterone (P) and the gradual rises in C and 17 beta -E from 60 hours before parturition; the rises in the two latter preceded the fall in P.
