Charcoal from indigenous and exotic species in Zambia

Charcoal from indigenous and exotic species in Zambia

Technical Note, Division of Forest Products Research, Forest Department, Zambia (29): 20

Traditional charcoal burning in Zambia is described and recommendations are given to increase the efficiency of earth-clamp kilns. Results are given of charcoaling experiments with brick and steel kilns, using exotic logging and sawmilling wastes as raw material. Results from laboratory experiments using exotic and indigenous species are also discussed. The properties of eucalypt charcoal from logging and sawmilling wastes corresponded to those of indigenous charcoal.
