Combining ability in crosses involving flue-cured and non flue-cured tobacco varieties

A study of yield, yield components and total alkaloid content in 4 testers and 8 lines (7 of which were flue-cured varieties) and their 32 F1 hybrids indicated that the variance of GCA was significant for all yield traits, total alkaloid content, leaf length and plant height for testers and lines. GCA variance was significant for number of curable and total leaves in lines but not in testers. Variance of SCA was significant for yield traits, number of curable leaves and days to flowering.
