Comparative efficiency of feed utilization in Pallas Merino, Turcana and Karakul sheep

During pregnancy DM intake ranged from 17 g/kg liveweight for Turcana sheep to 20 g/kg for Karakul sheep; during lactation the values were 21 g/kg for Pallas Merino to 31 g/kg for Karakul. Efficiency of utilization of dietary energy and protein was similar for the 3 breeds both during pregnancy and lactation. Energy and protein requirements differed between breeds during pregnancy and lactation: for Pallas Merino sheep they were about 8% lower than for Turcana and Karakul.
