Comparative evaluation of methods for detecting the Omsk haemorrhagic fever virus

A strain of the Omsk haemorrhagic fever virus adapted to newborn mice (NBM) was inoculated into NBM brain or cell cultures at different doses. The presence of the virus was detected by fluorescent antibody test (FAT) in cell cytoplasm and in NBM brain smears. Virus antigen titres in culture medium in NBM brain suspensions was evaluated by an indirect haemagglutination test (IHAT).
