Comparative investigation of the strength and rigidity of dry and moistened lumber in bending and compression

Comparative investigation of the strength and rigidity of dry and moistened lumber in bending and compression

Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Lesnoi Zhurnal (2): 121-123

Logs of Norway spruce 4 m long and 28-30 cm in diam. at the top end were sawn to give test-pieces 40x105 mm in cross-section and 1600 mm long (for bending tests) or 200 mm long (for compression tests). The pieces were kiln-dried to 7-8% m.c., milled, and then brought either to standard m.c. (12%) or to 22-24% m.c. before testing. The results of bending and compression tests are summarized for different grades of wood.
