Contents of inorganic and organic pollutants in soils and plants in the Berrenrath organic matter enrichment trial after long-term manuring with sewage sludge and refuse/sewage sludge compost

Abfallstoffe als Dunger Proceedings of the 99th VDLUFA congress, September 1987, Koblenz, German Federal Re ic VDLUFA Schriftenreihe No 23: 533-546

Treatments of NPK + green manure, alone and in combination with manures (stable manure, sewage sludge, refuse/sewage sludge compost, straw + CAN, peat), have been applied since 1969 to arable land in the Rhine Brown Coal region. Application of the wastes led to variable increases in soil Zn, Cd, Mg and Pb which however remained well below the limits; they also increased polychlorinated biphenyls, while only the compost increased polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
