Cultivar trials with asparagus

Cultivar trials with asparagus

Boer en de Tuinder 94(16): 14-15

Sixteen cultivars (8 Dutch, 5 French and 3 German) were planted under glass on 12 Apr. 1984. Heating was supplied by PVC hot-water pipes at a soil depth of 60 cm. The average numbers of stems/plant and their diameter were assessed at the end of Nov.; the stem numbers differed widely within each cultivar and the average diameter varied between 5.2 and 8.7 mm. After the first growing season, the plants were divided into 2 groups for cropping.
