Cultivating sugarbeet in potato producing areas by means of furrow application of calcium carbonate

In field trials in the Yotei mountain foothills, furrow application of calcium carbonate gave similar sugarbeet yields to surface application and resulted in lower soil pH for the succeeding crop than surface application of calcium carbonate, calcium oxide or slaked lime. The improved soil pH provided favourable conditions for potatoes by preventing development of Streptomyces scabies.
