Cultivation and suitability of potted seedlings of asparagus (Asparagus off. L.)

Trials were conducted to compare the performance in the field of 2 cultivars of (a) 1-year-old plants planted out in early spring, (b) direct outdoor spring sowings, and (c) spring-sown seedlings transplanted into peat pots in a warm greenhouse and planted out after hardening off in June. In 3 consecutive trials, the pot size in (c) was varied from 5 to 9 cm and the duration from sowing to planting out was varied from 9 to 12 weeks.
