Cultivation of mandarins at high density in rotation with paddy rice in Shantou region (Guangdong , China)

Cultivation of mandarins at high density in rotation with paddy rice in Shantou region (Guangdong , China)

Fruits Paris 44(2): 67-72

The system of cultivation of mandarins at high densities on the Shantou alluvial plain uses a rotation of 5-10 years of paddy rice, followed by the establishment of mandarin plantations. The frequency of the rotation depends on the incidence of Citrus greening disease and economic conditions. Mandarin trees are established at 1500-2000 trees/ha on individual mounds 70-80 cm above the water level, whilst rice continues to be grown between them.
