After direct sowing in a submerged paddy field on heavy clay soil, rice seedling emergence depended on the degree of soil reduction, the condition of CaO2-coated seeds, air temp. after sowing and water management. For soaked seed the best quantity of CaO2 was 66-100% of dry seed wt; 66% was best for several cultivars. Coated seed could be stored for about 2 weeks.
