Cultivation techniques for spring maize intercropped with autumn groundnuts

In 1985 and 1986 maize intercropped with groundnuts yielded 437-439 kg/mu while groundnuts yielded 103-125 kg. The management factors contributing to the success of the system were considered. A spacing of 133 cm between the maize rows was suggested and a sowing date for maize in early June. The plant spacing used should allow light and air to enter the crop while the application of fertilizer at flowering contributed to high yields.
