Commercial activities and rural development in South Asia A geographical study Proceedings of the International Conference of the IGU Study Group on Geography of Commercial Activities, Gorakhpur, India, 1985: 73-78

The paper employs a composite ranking index incorporating the state of agriculture and the degree of population pressure to identify potential, stagnant and problematic blocks in Barabanki and Deoria Districts, Uttar Pradesh. The first group is characterized by low population pressure, and there is scope for producing surplus in these areas with little increase needed in agricultural efficiency.
