Cultural and serological testing for Mycoplasma bovis in herds of cows with mastitis of unknown aetiology

Cultural and serological testing for Mycoplasma bovis in herds of cows with mastitis of unknown aetiology

Tierarztliche Umschau 44(12): 776-778, 781-782

Samples of blood and milk were taken from 281 cows at intervals of 4-6 months from 9 herds in which Mycoplasma bovis mastitis had been confirmed in 25 cows. The indirect haemagglutination test and an ELISA applied to blood serum were suitable for herd testing, but results obtained for individual cows were unreliable. The finding of antibodies in milk was not always related to the occurrence of clinical mastitis or the results of cultural tests.
