Cultural differences exist in the values held by the Northern Ute Indians and the rural Mormons in the Uintah Basin, Utah, USA, as regards water. Contradictions exist when those who assign non-market and spiritual meanings to water are faced by courts, industry and government agencies who recognize market and commodity valuations of water.
