Cultural policies or the institutionalized management of public patronage

During the second half of the 20th century, subsidies made to the arts and to culture have been considered a public responsibility. Although public patronage is part of a long lasting tradition, its present definition in terms of cultural policies is relatively new, since it originated in the post-war years.
