Cultural techniques for maximising the production of Dutch White Cabbage heads in the 700-1000 g weight range

Cultural techniques for maximising the production of Dutch White Cabbage heads in the 700-1000 g weight range

Acta Horticulturae ( 244): 133-138

Plant density, cultivar (Bison and Slawdena) and time of harvest were studied during 4 years. The optimum density in most years was 100 000 plants/ha, and Slawdena was the preferred cultivar. Harvest before crop maturity did not increase the yield of small heads, but substantially reduced the total marketable yield. Yields in the 700-1000 g range of head weights varied from 6 to 20 t/ha, and in the 1000-1500 g range from 15 to 42 t/ha. These combined sizes represented about 50% of total yield.
