Culture and characteristics of Scadoxus. Fireball and powderpuff types are suitable for cut flower or pot plant production

Culture and characteristics of Scadoxus. Fireball and powderpuff types are suitable for cut flower or pot plant production

Bloembollencultuur 101(5): 30-31

Scadoxus species (some recently transferred from the genus Haemanthus) have potential for glasshouse culture in the Netherlands. Their decorative flowers may resemble a powderpuff (e.g. S. (previously Haemanthus) natalensis) or a red ball (e.g. S. (previously Haemanthus) multiflorus); these species and the hybrid cultivar King Albert can be grown as long-flowering (3-4 weeks) pot plants and the cut blooms of King Albert last for at least 10 days.
