Culture of Rhinosporidium seeberi: preliminary report

Journal of Laryngology and Otology 103(2): 178-180

Twenty-five swabs were collected from the nose of patients suffering from R. seeberi infection and the samples were cultured in modified standard medium (potato dextrose agar with added peptone and tartaric acid). Positive results were obtained in 23 cases. Optimum growth was at pH 5.8-6.5 and 23 degrees C. The conidia produced from the colony were compared with the structures obtained from the patient material using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.
