Currect characteristics of endemic goitre in school children from two areas of Chile

Prevalence of endemic goitre among 1015 school children from 7 to over 16 years old from Santiago or Temuco city, Chile, was 7.6%, compared with 18.8% for a similar study in 1982. Prevalence was higher in girls, 9.9% compared with 5.2% for boys, and showed significant positive correlations with age in the total sample and in girls, mammary development and nutritional state, expressed as adequacy of weight for height.
