Current methods of counting mites in a given habitat

Current methods of counting mites in a given habitat

Revue Francaise d' Allergologie et d' Immunologie Clinique 28(2): 115-122

Counting house dust mites in a unfixed textile substrate is possible using the thermal shift method. Heating of the interior causes the mites to move to the surface where they can be collected on adhesive film and counted. The mobility test enables living mites to be counted in situ, such as in a fixed carpet. In this, an adhesive film is applied to the surface of the carpet. This is removed after 24 h and the mites counted.
