Current problems of interspecific hybridization in tomato

Sel' skokhozyaistvennaya Biologiya ( 1): 37-50

In this review, reasons for cross incompatibility between species are examined within Lycopersicon and between this genus and Solanum. Information is given on inhibition of pollen tube growth following crosses between species, on unilateral pollen incompatibility, on hybrid embryonal sterility and on overcoming interspecific incompatibility by selecting genetically more compatible forms and using embryo culture or by protoplast fusion.
