Current research in The Netherlands on improvement of breeding and selection methods for resistance of carnations to Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. dianthi

Current research in The Netherlands on improvement of breeding and selection methods for resistance of carnations to Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. dianthi

Acta Horticulturae (216): 111-117

The existence of 2 distinct resistance mechanisms against F. oxysporum f.sp. dianthi is postulated: (i) resistance to penetration of the roots, whether actively or passively through wounds; and (ii) resistance to growth of the fungus through the vascular system. The consequences of these mechanisms in screening and breeding resistant cultivars are discussed.
