Current situation and alternatives for diagnosis and control of chlamydiosis in the Federal Republic of Germany

Current situation and alternatives for diagnosis and control of chlamydiosis in the Federal Republic of Germany

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association 195(11): 1542-1547

After a description of import and quarantine regulations for psittacines in the GFR and antibiotic treatment, the development of a specific, sensitive and rapid serological test for avian chlamydiosis is described. A commercial amplified ELISA for detection of Chlamydia trachomatis in human urogenital specimens was adapted, and modified to be a blocking ELISA (BELISA), independent of the species-specific anti-gammaglobulins. The substrate and amplifier were replaced by p-nitrophenyl phosphate.
