Current strategy for the conservation of germplasm of world plant resources

Current strategy for the conservation of germplasm of world plant resources

Sbornik Nauchnykh Trudov po Prikladnoi Botanike, Genetike i Selektsii 100: 260-269

The main conditions for long-term seed storage are outlined: seeds must be raised in optimum ecological conditions and must be healthy, unaffected by diseases or pests, undamaged, dried to the lowest possible moisture content and of a high viability and germinability. They should be stored in hermetically sealed containers and kept at subzero temperatures (-10 to -20 degrees C or even at the temperature of liquid nitrogen, -196 degrees C).
