Cut and scooped bulbs need disinfection

In trials over 2 years with the hyacinth Pink Pearl, dipping in 0.4% benomyl plus 1% captan plus 0.5% formalin was more effective than dipping in a preparation in which captan was replaced by zineb/maneb (as AAtulsan) for controlling rots (caused by Fusarium, Embellisia, Penicillium and Pythium species) on mother bulbs being vegetatively propagated by basal scooping or cutting to induce bulblet formation. Yields of bulblets from captan-treated bulbs were significantly higher in both years.
