Cut potato seed piece separation

The possibility of using an airstream to separate acceptable size cut potato seed pieces from undersize (<28 g) and oversize (>70 g) pieces was investigated. Two wind tunnel experiments were carried out to determine the practical limits of this separation technique, and to determine the aerodynamic properties of seed pieces related to size and shape. Results showed that it is possible to eliminate approx. 80% of the undersize seed pieces with about 4% loss of acceptable flat pieces.
