An outbreak of cutnaeous abscesses, caused by Actinomyces pyogenes, leading to septicaemia and lesions in other parts of the body, including the ovaries, is described in flock of caged layers. Losses were estimated at 13.78% of the birds and 27.6% of the planned egg production.
