Cutaneous cryptococcosis mimicking molluscum contagiosum in a patient with AIDS

Cutaneous cryptococcosis mimicking molluscum contagiosum in a patient with AIDS

Journal of Infectious Diseases 158(4): 897-898

The authors report the case-history of a 55-year-old Haitian man with AIDS who had both pulmonary and cutaneous involvement with Cryptococcus neoformans; the latter lesions strongly resembled those of molluscum contagiosum. He had emigrated to Zaire in 1962 from whence he moved to the USA in 1985; the only risk factor for HIV infection that was admitted was frequent contact with female prostitutes in both Zaire and the USA.
