Cutaneous cryptococcosis resembling molluscum contagiosum: a first manifestation of AIDS

Cutaneous cryptococcosis resembling molluscum contagiosum: a first manifestation of AIDS

Acta Dermato-Venereologica 69(4): 365-367

A case is reported in a 30-yr-old man who presented with multiple skin umbilicated lesions resembling molluscum contagiosum. Initially the lesions were on his face, but they rapidly spread to the trunk and extremities. Histopathology and mycological cultures of a skin biopsy revealed Cryptococcus neoformans, which was also identified in cerebrospinal fluid and in bronchoalveolar washings.
