Cutaneous leishmaniasis in French Guiana: a review

Cutaneous leishmaniasis in French Guiana: a review

American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene 43(1): 25-28

This review synthesizes a 10-year study in French Guiana in which Leishmania braziliensis guyanensis was found to be the predominant parasite causing cutaneous leishmaniasis, with rare cases caused by Le. mexicana amazonensis. Lutzomyia umbratilis was implicated as the most likely vector of the former, and Lu. flaviscutellata of the latter.
