Cutaneous leishmaniasis in the light of observations on the diagnosis and treatment in the tropics

Cutaneous leishmaniasis in the light of observations on the diagnosis and treatment in the tropics

Wiadomosci Parazytologiczne 34(4-6): 509-514

An outline of Leishmania infections in man is followed by a brief account of observations on 11 cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis seen in 1980-1985 among 2500 European and other foreign specialists working in Iraq. Nine cases were caused by L. tropica (including 2 with L. aethiopica-type sores) and 2 by L. major. All patients received 1 g metronidazole and 25 g pyrimethamine daily in 3 cycles of 10 days each, with a one-week interval between cycles.
