Cuticular hydrocarbons of the female Calliphora vomitoria (Diptera)

Cuticular hydrocarbons of the female Calliphora vomitoria (Diptera)

Comptes Rendus de l' Academie des Sciences, III Sciences de la Vie 306(19): 569-573

The hydrocarbon composition of an apolar cuticular extract of mature (72 h after hatching) females of C. vomitoria was determined. There were 49 components having 20-32 carbon atoms, of which 98.6% were saturated hydrocarbons, particularly n-alkanes and monomethylalkanes. This differs from other Diptera where alkenes predominate.
