Cutting wood by laser radiation in a pulsed regime

An account is given of experiments on the effect of the parameters of the pulse regime when cutting wood of spruce alder and beech by laser. The pulse frequency examined was 100-1000 c/s, with pulse duration 0.2-1.5 ms, and radiation 100-400 W. The wood m.c. was 8-10%. The pulse regime had a significant influence on the speed and quality of cutting.
