Cyanide transformation in anaerobic phenol-degrading methanogenic cultures

Cyanide transformation in anaerobic phenol-degrading methanogenic cultures

Water Science and Technology 21(4-5): 67-76

The effect of the presence of cyanide in industrial wastewaters containing phenolics amenable to degradation by methanogenic consortia was examined. With higher cyanide concn, there was a longer time lag before the onset of methane production. However, when methanogenesis was established, methane production proceeded at the same rate in cyanide-fed cultures as in cyanide-free controls. Most of the cyanide was transformed to an unidentified product which remained in the liquid phase.
