Development of Varroa jacobsoni on worker and drone brood

The brood of 15 colonies in an infested 63-hive apiary was examined between the 23rd May and the 13th August, 1983. In the worker brood 7 Varroa jacobsoni females were found on 399 coiled larvae (1.7%) and 13 on 746 straight larvae (1.7%), while on 1531 light-eyed pupae there were 17 females, 4 eggs, one nymph and 4 males, on 6548 dark-eyed pupae were 73 females, 11 eggs, 63 nymphs and 44 males, and on 1937 imagoes before hatching 26 females, 15 nymphs and 4 males.
