Differential susceptibility of maize varieties to boron deficiency in a calcareous soil

In a field trial in Bihar, maize Suwan Yellow, Suwan White, UPB-742, AB(W) White, M-9 and M-12 were grown in a B-deficient calcareous soil and given 0, 1.5 or 2.5 kg B/ha. B application significantly increased both grain and stover yields in all cultivars except AB(W) White. The largest grain yield response to B was given by Suwan White. Grain yield was positively correlated with B uptake by grain and stover. Stover yield was correlated with B uptake by stover.
