In 1984-85, weather conditions, especially low temp. after sowing, were favourable for penetration by D. graminea of the embryo during seed germination. The transmission rate of infection from seeds to tillers reached 60.9%. In 1985-86 temp. was higher after sowing and percentage transmission was reduced to 35.5%.
