Duodenal nutrient flow and digestibility in Holstein steers fed formaldehyde- and formic acid-treated alfalfa or orchardgrass silage at two intakes

Formaldehyde- and formic acid-treated lucerne or orchardgrass silage were fed at 65 and 90 g DM/kg 0.75 per day to growing Holstein steers weighing 209 kg fitted with permanent rumen and duodenal cannulae in a 4 x 4 Latin square design trial. Lucerne had higher (P<0.01) concentrations of cell solubles, total nitrogen and rumen-soluble N than did orchardgrass.
