Earthworm populations of hardwood stands in northern Belgium

Earthworm populations of hardwood stands in northern Belgium

Silva Gandavensis (52): 29-55

Studies in stands of Populus X euramericana Fraxinus excelsior, Quercus robur and F. sylvatica showed that Allolobophora caliginosa was the dominant species. Earthworms were abundant under P. canadensis and F. excelsior but were rare under Q. robur and F. sylvatica. Abundance and biomass showed a max. during spring and autumn and a min. during summer and winter.
