From 7 months old laying hens were given a commercial diet with livol, a mixture of the herbs Boerhavia diffusa, Solanum nigrum, Terminalia arjuna and Citrullus colocynthis and salt, 0, 0.25, 0.50 or 0.75 g/hen daily for 3 months (groups 1, 2, 3 and 4, respectively). Egg production was increased (P<0.05) in group 3 compared with other groups. Average egg weight was increased (P<0.05) in groups 3 and 4 compared with other groups. It was considered cost effective to feed livol 0.50 g/hen daily.
