Effect of maize nuclear background on mitochondrial protein synthesis in Zea luxurians mitochondria

Effect of maize nuclear background on mitochondrial protein synthesis in Zea luxurians mitochondria

Maize Genetics Cooperation News Letter ( 63): 69-70

When Z. luxurians cytoplasm was placed in an A619 nuclear background, a 22 kDa polypeptide was synthesized that was not present in a W23 background. Genetic analysis demonstrated that A619 carried a recessive nuclear gene that allowed the expression of the protein. The protein was not expressed in a cross with B73, but it was present in a cross with Mo17.
