Of 4 irrigation methods (furrow, check [basin], border and sprinkler) tested for raya [Brassica juncea], sprinkler irrigation showed lowest water consumption, gave the highest seed yields (2.27 t/ha) and highest water use efficiency (WUE). Wheat gave highest grain yields (5.4 t/ha) with basin irrigation, while WUE was highest with sprinkler irrigation. Both crops extracted more water from the deeper soil layers with sprinkler irrigation than with other irrigation methods.
