Results are given of NPK fertilizer trials (4 rates, plus unfertilized controls) on poor sandy soils, started in 1977 with seedlings of 5 Russian provenances of Pinus sylvestris and the local pine. Results show that the optimum dose for most provenances is 50/100/45 or 100/100/45 NPK/ha. In both optimum soil moisture and in droughty conditions, the fertilizer treatment improved height growth, root length, needle length and weight, and biomass accumulation.
