Effect of mixed larval trematode infections on carbohydrate pool of the snail host Lymnaea luteola

Effect of mixed larval trematode infections on carbohydrate pool of the snail host Lymnaea luteola

Environment and Ecology (Kalyani) 6.3: 594-596

Glucose and glycogen contents in the major tissues and body fluid of the L. luteola parasitized by larval trematodes (Prosthogonimus sp. or Schistosoma incognitum), were estimated. A general drop in glucose and glycogen contents in all major tissues during infection and a rise in glucose content of body fluid on infection were found. Oxidation studies revealed that infected tissue oxidized glucose efficiently.
